This dataset provides aggregated maps showing fishing activity for swordfish at vessel speeds of 2-3 knots, based on Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data. Maps were produced by Malta's Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture using a methodology that displays VMS intensity rather than fishing effort. Because most vessels under 12 metres are not equipped with VMS, the maps represent only a fraction of drifting longline fishing activity for swordfish in Maltese waters.
