Thermal waters
This dataset provides an overview of thermal groundwater occurrences in Switzerland, i.e. groundwater heated by geothermal energy. The elevated temperature results from interaction with surrounding rock as water circulates to greater depths within the earth's crust, distinguishing it from shallow, non-deep groundwater at ambient temperatures. It is published by the Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo) as part of national geodata infrastructure. The dataset is useful for hydrogeological analysis, geothermal resource assessment, and spatial planning related to groundwater and subsurface heat sources across Switzerland. Access is free and requires no authentication. This dataset contains an overview of groundwater in Switzerland that have been heated by geothermal energy.
