INFOMAR Seabed Survey Trackline
This dataset provides survey tracklines from the INFOMAR seabed mapping programme, showing the paths followed by survey vessels as they mapped the Irish seabed. Vessels collect multibeam echosounder (MBES) data by emitting a fan of soundwaves and recording the reflected signal, with the resulting swath of seabed coverage known as the footprint. The tracklines record where such surveys were conducted, providing a spatial index of survey coverage. INFOMAR is Ireland's national seabed mapping programme, jointly run by the Geological Survey Ireland and the Marine Institute, and the data supports marine spatial planning, navigation safety, and habitat and resource assessment around the Irish coast.Survey tracklines delineate the line along which the vessel travelled as it was surveying.
