INSS INFOMAR Seabed Survey Shallow seismic Sub-Bottom Profile
This API provides sub-bottom profile data collected under the INFOMAR seabed survey programme around Ireland. Sub-bottom profiling works by transmitting sound waves from a survey vessel to the seabed and measuring the time taken for the signal to return, revealing rock features and sediment layers beneath the seafloor. The dataset is published by the Irish Government and covers national marine territory. It supports geological interpretation of the seabed and sub-seabed, useful for mapping sediment thickness and underlying rock structure in surveyed coastal and offshore areas.Sub-bottom profile data shows the rock features and the sediment layers that are below the seabed. A sub-bottom profile is created by sending sound waves from the vessel to the seabed. The length of time it takes for these sound wave to return from the seabed to the vessel is measured. The lengt…
