This dataset presents a 2007 national inventory of coastal lagoons in Ireland, compiled by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in response to obligations under the EU Habitats Directive. Before this survey, only four lagoons were well documented — Lady's Island Lake, Tacumshin Lake, Lough Murree and Furnace Lough — with limited published biological research on Irish lagoon habitats generally. The inventory extends coverage across the country, recording location, physical characteristics and ecological features of identified lagoon sites.
