Inventory of Irish coastal lagoons 2007
This dataset presents a national inventory of coastal lagoons in Ireland, compiled in 2007 to support obligations under the EU Habitats Directive. Prior to the Directive, only a handful of lagoons—such as Lady's Island Lake, Tacumshin Lake, Lough Murree and Furnace Lough—were well documented, with limited published biological research. The inventory was produced by Ireland's National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) to identify and characterise lagoon sites across the country, providing baseline information on their location, extent and ecological features.
