This dataset documents the actual-state biotope type mapping carried out in 2000 as an evidence-preservation record prior to the construction measure adapting the fairway of the Lower and Outer Elbe to container shipping. It was produced using HRSC-A aerial image data together with an automated biotope type classification procedure. The earlier 1997 biotope type mapping could not serve as a reference baseline because it was generated with different detection techniques resulting in lower accuracy. The data are published by Informationstechnikzentrum Bund, Ilmenau site, and cover a defined stretch of the German federal waterway network relevant to the Elbe fairway adaptation project.]The biotope type mapping 2000 was carried out as an actual status recording before the expansion of the construction measure "Adaptation of the fairway of the outer and lower eel to container shipping" using HRSC-A image data and an automated biotope type mapping. The biotope type mapping 1997 was not suitable as a reference image due to the different detection techniques and the associated lower accuracies.
