Thermal networks: demand from residential and commercial buildings
This dataset provides estimates of heat and cooling demand from residential and commercial buildings, intended to support strategic planning of thermal (district heating and cooling) networks in Switzerland. Since a thermal network is only economically viable when it can generate sufficient sales turnover, demand data is used to identify large, densely connected areas where heat or cooling loads justify network investment. The data is published by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (Bundesamt für Energie, BFE) as part of national energy-planning resources, and is useful to municipalities, utilities, and planners assessing the feasibility of new or expanded thermal grid infrastructure across Switzerland.The demand for heat and cooling is a key element in the strategic planning of thermal networks.
