This dataset, published by the Finnish Environment Institute (Suomen ympäristökeskus, SYKE), delineates urban areas (kaupunkiseutu) as defined within the national monitoring system for community structure (YKR). Each urban area consists of the central built-up zone of a major city centre, the nearby densely built areas that are physically and functionally closely connected to it, and the surrounding sparsely populated buffer zone.
