Thermal networks: demand from industry
This dataset supports strategic planning for thermal (district heating) networks by mapping industrial heat demand across Switzerland. It identifies large, connected areas with sufficiently high heat density — generally at least 700 MWh per year per hectare — that may be suitable for connection to a thermal network. Because industrial processes require heat at specific temperature levels, the dataset also accounts for the temperature requirements of different industries alongside demand volume. Published by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (BFE) as part of national energy planning data, it is intended for use in assessing where thermal network infrastructure could be viably developed.”}}In strategic planning, heat demand is used to identify large connected areas that may be appropriate for a thermal network. Areas with a heat density of at least 700 MWh/a per hectare are considered suitable. As well as heat density, heat must be supplied at a specific temperature. Some industries…
