This API provides the "Communes" layer of the BD TOPO® v3 reference geographic dataset, published by Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence. A commune is the first-level administrative division in France, governed by a mayor. The dataset is derived from the national geographic reference database maintained by the IGN (Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière), covering the municipalities within the metropolitan territory.
