Special Protection Area (WFD RBMP Cycle 2)
This dataset provides a September 2016 snapshot of Special Protection Areas (SPAs) in Ireland, compiled for Cycle 2 of the Water Framework Directive River Basin Management Plan (WFD RBMP). SPAs are designated under the EU Birds Directive (79/409/EEC) to protect listed rare and vulnerable bird species and regularly occurring migratory species, such as ducks and geese, along with their habitats. The dataset is maintained by the Marine Institute and supports water and nature conservation planning at national level under the WFD RBMP process.This dataset represents a snapshot of Special Protection Areas taken in September 2016 for the purpose of the WFD RBMP Cycle 2.
