This dataset, published by the Finnish Environment Institute (Suomen ympäristökeskus), covers rapids and rivers protected under the Rapids Protection Act (No. 35/87, 23 January 1987), along with the catchment areas within which these protected watercourses or parts of watercourses are located. Under the Water Act, no permit can be granted for constructing power plants or other installations that would alter the water flow of these protected rapids, rivers, or watercourse sections.
