INFOMAR Seabed Survey Acoustic Backscatter (seafloor hardness)
This API provides access to acoustic backscatter data collected under the INFOMAR programme (Integrated Mapping for the Sustainable Development of Ireland's Marine Resource), a joint initiative of the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Marine Institute. INFOMAR is the successor to the Irish National Seabed Survey and focuses on mapping Ireland's inshore and offshore waters. Backscatter intensity from seabed surveys indicates relative seafloor hardness and sediment type, supporting habitat classification, geological interpretation, and marine spatial planning. The dataset is freely accessible without authentication and covers Ireland's national maritime area, forming part of the broader INFOMAR seabed mapping data series. The integrated Mapping for the Sustainable Development of Ireland’s Marine Resource (INFOMAR) programme is a joint venture between the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) and the Marine Institute (MI). The programme is the successor to the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS) and concentrates on crea…
