This WFS service provides aggregated maps showing fishing activity intensity for vessels operating at 4-5 knots, a speed range associated with dolphinfish (lampuki) fishing. The maps are derived from Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data using a methodology developed by Malta's Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, showing intensity rather than fishing effort. Since most vessels under 12 metres in length lack VMS equipment, the dataset covers only a fraction of the national fishing fleet. It is published by the Planning Authority of Malta and offers a national geospatial view of dolphinfish-related fishing activity around the Maltese islands.These datasets were manipulated and produced in aggregated maps by showing the intensity of VMS (and not the effort) by a methodology used in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
