Federal Inventory of Raised and Transition Bogs of National Importance
This dataset provides the federal inventory of raised and transition bogs of national importance in Switzerland, published by the Swiss Confederation (Federal Office for the Environment, BAFU). Raised bogs are among the most endangered habitats in the country, with only 10-20% of original stocks remaining. The scientific inventory was compiled between 1978 and 1984 by the Agricultural Division of the WSL (Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research), and provides geographic and ecological information used for the legal protection and conservation planning of these sites at the national level.Raised bogs are some of the most susceptible habitats in Switzerland and are in sharp decline.
