This dataset provides geographic areas (polygons) related to open and closed thermal energy storage systems (WKO, warmte-koudeopslag) in the Netherlands. Open systems pump up groundwater and pass it through a heat exchanger, which extracts heat or cold depending on the season before the water is reinfiltrated. Closed systems use sealed underground loops instead of extracting groundwater.
