This dataset, published via INSEE (French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies), provides the official legal population figures for French regions, versioned by year. Population data take effect on 1 January, based on administrative boundaries as of 1 January of the previous year and on the census conducted three years earlier. The dataset covers regions across France and allows tracking of legal population counts over successive editions, supporting demographic analysis and administrative or statistical uses at the regional level.
