This dataset, published via the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis open data portal, provides the official legal population figures issued annually by INSEE, the French national statistics institute. Figures take effect on 1 January of a given year, based on administrative boundaries as of 1 January of the previous year and on census data from three years earlier. Populations are broken down by administrative division, including municipalities and municipal districts.
