Natural stones on buildings
This dataset documents the use of natural stone in the construction of more than 4,000 buildings across Switzerland. The original records were compiled by geologist Francis de Quervain between 1954 and 1983, capturing details of stone types and their architectural applications. Over the past decade the collection has been continuously supplemented with additional entries on stone use. It is published by the Swiss Confederation, with data managed by the Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo), and provides a national-level resource on building materials and stone quarrying history in Switzerland.This dataset shows the use of stone in the construction of over 4,000 buildings in Switzerland.
