This dataset defines the maritime boundary of the Irish territorial sea, published by the Marine Institute. As set out under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the territorial sea is a belt of coastal waters extending up to 12 nautical miles (22.2 km) from the baseline, usually the mean low-water mark, of a coastal state. The territorial sea is subject to the sovereignty of the coastal state, subject to international law.
