Irish Historic Towns Atlas
This geospatial dataset was created by Land Use Consultants (LUC), based on the Royal Irish Academy's Irish Historic Towns Atlas. It shows towns with over 3,000 inhabitants and urban district towns located within 2 km of the Irish coast, along with information about their historical origin. Settlements were identified using the Historic Towns Atlas, with coordinates obtained via Google Earth and converted into a shapefile before filtering for coastal proximity. It is provided as a national-level API for Ireland with free access and no authentication required. The dataset was created by Land Use Consultants (LUC) and is based on The Royal Irish Academy Irish Historic Towns Atlas (https://www.ria.ie/sites/default/files/origins_of_towns_0.pdf).
