This regulation implements at the European Community level the UN / ECE Protocol on pollutant release and transfer registers, which was established to comply with the provisions of the Aarhus Convention on access to information, public participation in decision-making and access to justice in environmental matters. The regulation establishes an integrated pollutant release and transfer register at Community level in the form of a publicly available electronic database and sets out rules for its functioning. The National Pollutant Release and Transfer Register is part of the European Pollutant Release and Transfer
